OUR ETHIC FOUNDATIONS

Sustainability, social responsibility & countries of origin

Sustainability peaks high on the worldwide agenda. For the best of reasons, as the stakes are high: we only have one planet, we need to handle it with (better) care before it turns its back on us for good. As a fashion brand, we aim for a sustainable approach when developing our collections. By opting for eco-friendly fabrics and trims whenever we can, and buying no more than needed to prevent overspill. But also by designing pieces in timeless style, destined to stay ‘in fashion'. Accordingly, we produce these lovingly called new forever pieces at a high level of quality to make them as long-lasting as possible, both aspects of sustainability that should not be overlooked or underestimated. Nor should 'the people behind the product': our suppliers are firmly certified in terms of labor conditions, in most cases they’re small (family) businesses - over the years we’ve built a strong, warm relationship that reflects in our products. Honesty is key: we don’t operate 100% sustainable and carbon neutral - we don’t (yet) have the resources to meet all the sustainability challenges of the fashion industry. However, below we explain how Josephine & Co strives to operate in a more sustainable, socially responsible manner.

SUSTAINABILITY

  • natural materials such ass (organic) cotton, linen and wool
  • whenever possible, we opt FOR (BCI-/FSC/GOTS-) certified fabrics & yarns*
  • fully or partly recycled materials in fabrics, yarns & trims
  • actively sourcing next-gen sustainable fabrics & yarns (such as Seawool®, a sustainable alternative for wool made from PET-bottles and oyster shells)
  • (dead)stock fabrics and/or leftover fabrics
  • certified garment-dye process for ready-made garments, preventing overspill and leftover fabrics
  • opting more and more for European production plants,  reducing environmental impact by transportation
  • * certification procedures are expensive; we work with smaller companies that don’t always have the necessary financial resources. However when fabrics and yarns come without certification, it doesn’t automatically mean that they are non-sustainable.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

  • small (family) businesses, thoroughly certified labor conditions
  • loyalty & commitment, long-term business relationships
